Lucy Mermaid

Grabbing waves
like curtains

she pulls them through her breasts
and then down again, into a brilliant tail

under the moon
she blows bubble after bubble
then sings a song of mystery

following men’s dreams
along the dark water’s edge.

Bachelors wake
to find fish on kitchen tables

garnished with the memory
of breathing under water.
